How to get there
On this page we describe different ways to travel to Finland from Holland. We tried out most of these possibilities
ourselves and can very well tell you the pro's and cons of each possibility.
Here are in our experience the most convenient ones.
By airplane
Advantage is of course the short travel-time. Within a day you can be at your destination. And it can be cheap as well!
Disadvantage is that you don't have your own car with you and you'll have to rent a car or travel by train. We don't
recommend to travel by public transport; eventhough it is relatively cheap and good, it does not bring you to those
special places that easily.
The following routes are possible:
- Schiphol -
Helsinki
with
Finnair,
KLM and
SAS.
With connecting flights to other cities in Finland.
- Schiphol-Vaasa with
Finnair through Helsinki, or
SAS through Stockholm.
When flying to Vaasa you are directly in Etelä-Pohjanmaa!
- And of course the price fighters (we heard good stories...)
By ferry
You can reach Finland easily by car and ferry. The advantage is that you have the car with you to drive around there.
The fastest route, within two days (!) at your place of destination in Finland, is through
- the ferry Rostock-Hanko
maintained by Superfast Ferries.
It is an 8-hour drive to Rostock,
less than 24 hours on the boat, and a few hours drive in Finland.
Another, adventurous, option is to drive to Stockholm (min. 2 days) and take
All the way by car
A longer route makes it of course more adventurous and exciting. You can travel comfortably in a minimum of four days
through Denmark and Sweden all around to Finland.
On your way you can really enjoy Sweden and a little bit of Lapland or the Norwegian mountains if you like. You can
combine this with a ferry on the way back for example!
